Greetings from Panu Virolainen
Chief Technology Officer, ABB Motion
Energy efficiency is more relevant than ever. Rise of population, growth of global economy, urbanization, automation and rise of living standards will all increase demand for energy globally. Without accelerating and strengthening our commitment to reducing the consumption of energy and to using energy more efficiently we will accelerate climate change as well as other undesirable changes in our environment. We need to act, and we need to act now.
ABB has launched the Energy Efficiency Movement to bring together different stakeholders to take action towards a more energy efficient future. As stated in conjunction with launch of the movement, everybody has a role to play: Public decision makers and government regulators need to incentivize rapid adoption of most energy efficient technologies. Businesses, cities, and countries need to be aware of both the cost savings and environmental advantages and be willing to make the investment. Investors need to reallocate capital towards companies better prepared to address the climate risk. Especially, contribution that science can make through research, development and introduction of new solutions and technologies is significant.
Related to the role of science in improving energy efficiency specifically, it is my pleasure to invite you to a dedicated event, ABB Energy Efficiency Symposium – Science and Technology. The intention of this event is to provide to you as a member of a small group of first-rate scientists in engineering an opportunity to disconnect from your daily routines and to spend one full day sharing your thoughts and listening to others’ thoughts of most important challenges and opportunities in how to improve energy efficiency.
I invite you to learn more about the Energy Efficiency Movement at join.energyefficiencymovement.com.
